Let’s reply to Crazyyetwise’s post about Atheism

I don’t think I’ve ever cried of laughter so much than when I read Crazy Yet Wise’s post about Atheism. How can someone have such a distorted view of not only Atheism, but people in general?

But look, I’m a nice person and I want to help out Crazyyetwise. Yes, she could’ve easily researched the topic instead of making this silly and uneducated post about Atheism, but let’s try to forget that and help her out! This is the post we shall be replying to:

http://crazyyetwise.com/2012/03/21/being-an-atheist/

Note: If you are still wrapped around the mindset of what your parents and others have been forcing down your throat since you were a child about religion, and do not care to learn anything new or feel offended when presented with new ideas that contradict your own, or facts, do not continue reading.

Religion does not define morality. This fact can easily be shown as false if we look at the animal kingdom. Most animals that stay together in a group try to defend and protect one another. For example, if you watch this video you find that a lioness saves her cub from a cliff. Does the lioness need to save her baby cub? No, but she feels a duty to save her. She has a moral obligation to the cub because it is her own and the cub is distressed. What religion is the lions for them to have been taught morals to know that they should save people when they are in distress? Exactly… they don’t have religion.

For further reading about morals in Atheists, I suggest this link: http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/faq#HowcanatheistshavemoralswithoutGod

Remember that humans are mammals themselves and share a common ancestor with the primates of today, so yes, to reply to Crazyyetwise’s snarky comment about atheists being animals in jungles, we are animals.

And before any comments start popping up saying: “but evolution is just a theory darf darf,” please learn what theory means. Theory is not just something someone comes up with that may not be true. Theory is: a coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena: Einstein’s theory of relativity. Synonyms: principle, law, doctrine. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/theory

I describe atheists as animals living in a huge jungle doing whatever they want or whatever think is right, because they don’t believe in any religion, thus they create their own beliefs. -crazyyetwise

This is simply not true. There is no evidence that Atheists do whatever they want whenever they want to. As described above, there is an inherit desire to do good within animals (which we are). Further from that the society we were born into has laws and governments that people must abide to which tells them what is right or wrong. Some governments’ laws have been derived from religion, and others haven’t. For example, Kuwait’s laws are derived from Islam, while the United States’s laws and constitution are not derived from religions and there is a separation of church and state.

So your argument is that a person has to believe that after they die they have to either be rewarded or punished for the things they’ve done in order to feel a moral obligation to obey the law? But if you steal and are caught, aren’t you put into jail? The punishment is there right in front of your eyes, and any educated person knows that if they break the law they are punished. The fear is right here in our lives. One is not required to believe in a punishment after death to realize that stealing is illegal and you can be punished for it. There are people there to punish and judge us. It’s called the law system, comprising of police, lawyers, and judges.

You’re right about “inherit from our ancestors,” but are wrong about it being religion. Remember that most of the major religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) are only about 2000 years old. An evolutionary change would have to take millions of years. I talked about this subject above and how we inherently do good, regardless of religion.

Don’t tell me Atheists have the same morals & ethics that any man of faith has! They don’t! If they do, then they’re following a certain religion/belief & not admitting it.

You’re right in that Atheists don’t have the same morals and ethics that people of Islam have or Islam gives them. Atheists do not have a religious right to advocate slavery like Muslims do, men Atheists don’t have the religions right to beat their wives like Muslims do, and Atheists don’t have the religious right to execute someone who decides to change their religion from Islam like Muslims do.

when you grow up & you say ” I don’t believe in Allah” or “I don’t believe in heaven nor hell” but you still have you morals & ethics! I tell you “Moron, that’s what your parents taught you  was based on their religion”.

Real classy Crazyyetwise. Because someone has a different opinion they’re a moron?

As described above, changing your religion from Islam deems you to be executable, so it doesn’t even matter if someone converts to something “safer” or not.

As described above, we are animals.

Now to the “You don’t have a brain to think?,” part. You could easily say the same to any person of faith. Basically it’s an empty statement. Do your research and educate yourself.

What the FUDGE?! This is a silly story and it proves nothing in defense for religion. Unless you provide some statistics stop spewing fiction and using it to defend your point.

As far as pre-marital sex goes, it’s the choice for the two people who will conduct the sexual act. Religion does not stop the human urge for sexual relations. Furthermore, in Islam it is only a sin to have per-marital sex and is not forbidden. What’s the big deal? It’s just sex. Animals have sex all the time, regardless of religion. There are things preventing having a baby such as a condom or birth control pills, but that’s not taught to the teenagers of Kuwait. Instead they’re just told it’s wrong and are not educated about proper sex practices, including birth control.

Atheism is the disbelief that God exists. This does not mean they are rampant animals without any moral obligations. They are educated people that find no proof that a God exists. There is certainly no scientific proof a God exists and the three major monotheistic religions base their teachings completely on faith.

Now I could seriously be writing about this subject for pages and pages, but instead I ask of you to go out and read a book or two. Educate yourself and learn about these topics before blindly posting about them because you disagree with them. Here is a list of good books to read about the subject: http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/faq#RecommendedReading

And here’s a good list of videos to watch about the subject (for our younger, less attention span-y readers lol): http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/faq#RecommendedViewing

I’ll end with a question. How many of the readers of this blog are atheists? I’ve personally met 5 Kuwaiti atheists, but they dare not share their disbelief openly. You can post anonymously if you want and tell us about yourself and what made you go towards atheism.

“Never argue with a fool, they will lower you to their level, then beat you with experience” that’s why when arguing with religious people or football fanatics (very similar by the way) I’ll go down to their level and enjoy their funny point of views, and ask dumb question and get even dumber answers, so much fun.

Unless I feel that the person i’m talking to is capable of having an intelligent conversation, then its different.

I’m 100% Kuwaiti and an atheist. I openly admit it to some but I don’t wanna get stoned so I try to be careful who I tell. I come from a psycho-religious family. I gave up on religion at a young age but didn’t title myself as an atheist until I was 17. My family has given up on me at this point. I had my grandma ask me when I was going to hajj a few days ago and I just laughed at her. My whole family pretty much knows I don’t practice Islam but they are in denial and won’t actually acknowledge that I am not a Muslim. My siblings all know I’m an atheist. I’m curious to hear your story kuwait blogs suck.

  3. unknown

i know im going to judged by every religious person here so im putting myself unknown

what my father taught religion was our law system years ago, to teach us wrong from right and to fear the after life, to not do wrong

and athiesm isnt about the creator its more of along the lines of the story being told

we have had so much blood shed by people causenof religion , i still watch the news and still hear a muslim has been killed somewhere for being muslim

i dont think religion is a bad thing bl 3ks its a good thing, but the people who believe what they want are bad. they believe thier right and then do wrong. thats not what religon told us to do

i have read part of each religion and never have i heard * shed the blood of nonbelievers *
so why do we critisize everyone why do we think of them so low. when we have all come from the same blood and flesh thosands of years ago religion was made to unite us but people used it as an exucse to seperate

i read in the news paper once * never once has a proffesor killed a religious man but religious men have killed proffesors*

    • unknown

now with that post i am not supporting religon nor am i abusing it. and i am an athiest too

i dont go and tell the world i hate your religion , i accept everyone. so if an athiest can do that why cant a religios person do it too?

i also like to say i support hitler * let me talk first!*
his idea was * let us all be 1 religion, 1 colour and 1 nation* why? cause people are rascist about those 3 things.
we cant accept each other for who we are ? we have to follow your path to be accepted? i dont understand all this hate. did that chirstion man come and rape your wife? no but you still look down at him, like he’s a bug that needs to be killed

and parents who force thier children to believe and then outcast them because they dont* isnt that your son? didnt you give birth to him? didnt you love him when he was born? then why no accept him and accept his decision?

religion isnt hate but religious people still hate others

Haha this post is awesome. Crazy Yet Wise sounds like the typical self righteous ideologue. I’m personally very pleased that you put her in her place.

I’m a 24 year old Kuwaiti atheist, and sometimes I just can’t stand the Muslims’ holier than thou mentality — it really drives me NUTS. Glad to see a young Kuwaiti atheist like you speaking up, keep it up!

BTW I just stumbled across this blog and I have to say that it’s such an nice change from all the other Kuwaiti blogs, well done.

Wow, Atheism in this small land of righteousness. How is that for a post?
I know I am late to the party but I felt like saying it anyway. I am a Muslim but I speak only on my behalf. Most of our religious teachings sought to unite people, restore human dignity and rights, tame human impulses and set certain codes/teachings by which people -Muslims or not- would live peacefully in one strong and just nation. Most existing religious populations in that nation’s time shared some or most of these teachings and bylaws. Atheist population, however, posed a threat to that unity; maybe for the lack of some sort of belief or covenant with the Almighty. I know where Islam stands on the matter of atheism just in case one wants to go fanatics on me and I am a believer as well. But the reason why I don’t jump blindly to conclusions and judge people or condemn them is that I try to live by that book and believe in its teachings and purposes.
As for parents forcing kids into Islam it’s not always the case. My father taught me what Islam is all about; he didn’t just force me to mosques and starved me till sunset for a month each year trying to make me a Muslim. I can not accept the idea that there is no greater power beyond our comprehension responsible for all creation.
P.S.I am glad I found this blog, I was getting sick of redundancy and plain usefulness. Hope you guys visit my blog and provide some feedback; a lot of you – judging by your posts- seam like the kind of jury I am looking for.

Prancing around and telling people to go and educate themselves, when you, yourself failed to do so? First of all, sex is not only a sin, but also forbidden, and people will surely be punished. The we are animals part? Well, you say say we are animals, I say Allah has honored us and made us human, we are Adam’s descendants! what youre doing is simply saying what ever will support your arguments and ignoring the details, ill spare you them because I’m pretty sure even then you won’t be convinced..
All I can say is kaifk, this is ur life, you do whatever you want, you seem very attached to this certain matter, Allah yahdeek, but frankly it’s just sad, not just for you, but for everyone else to you might inspire or encourage..

Atheism is becoming pretty popular among people in our region. The reasons are many, main reason which I have noticed is the mainstream media. Many have been absorbing and blindly embracing theories, values and curricula’s without the slightest comprehension of what they really mean or could lead to has brought atheism to this place and many other places. Last time I read an article that basically says atheism is now the 3rd largest religion.

What I did also notice looking at several enthusiastic arab atheists is that they are so busy attacking religions, mocking beliefs of others and their way of life which is in itself does present a problem. All atheists seem to feel like messengers of the true new-found faith. They do not call for something, they call for the destruction of religion. There is actually a lot think about in this particular way of life the atheist man lives his life.

I did once read a small note written at the end of some religious book I was reading and it was addressed to atheists so I will share it. Maybe someone will think over it one day who knows… it says:

    Note to atheists and agnostics
Every responsible voyager across unknown territory has to establish a contingency route of some kind. Suppose you were scaling a mountain no one had ever climbed – you would have to develop a primary strategy, and then a secondary strategy for reaching your destination in case of miscalculation, unforeseen circumstances, or simple bad luck.
So. You have never died before. What is your backup plan?

I disagree. It has more to do with information being readily available to most people through the Internet. Not only that, but people are getting smarter and realizing religion is all about control, power and sometimes even money. Aside from that, they are filled with an incredible amount fallacies and still have no stint of evidence of them being true. People are moving away from religion and becoming atheists because they are getting smarter.
“Last time I read an article that basically says atheism is now the 3rd largest religion.”
Atheism is not a religion. Someone once put it, is off a TV channel?
“What I did also notice looking at several enthusiastic arab atheists is that they are so busy attacking religions, mocking beliefs of others and their way of life which is in itself does present a problem. ”
Although there are some militant atheists, the vast majority of them are not violent or attacking anybody. The issue stems with religious people getting offended or mad that an atheist is tearing apart their world by presenting that their religion is dependent on fallacies and inaccuracies. People get mad when that happens.
The note you posted is just straight up conjecture. Lots of religious people use conjecture, riddles or loaded questions that show no proof either way of any deity existing.

    Regards to All

Atheism IS a “religion” (so says the Supreme Court) and the Hypothesis (not theory) of Evolution IS the associated creation myth it defends.

FACT: If evolution were a “theory” YOU COULD demonstrate it repeatedly and beyond question with an “in your face” experiment. You can’t do that at all and YOU are the one putting forth the fake “theory”. I make no claim about the truth of atheism or ANY OTHER religion. I DON”T make an extraordinary claims so I DON”T need to have extraordinary EVIDENCE. YOU DO. The extraordinary claim here is that evolution is a fact that has been proved. That is NOT true. YOU cannot put forth EVIDENCE to support your contention; therefore your “theory” is NOT proven.

Disagree? Meet me back here in one month and SHOW PROOF by demonstrating it. Let’s use an amoeba- your task is to “evolve” it by making it turn into a paramecium. Good luck!

I KNOW what you will say, “but we need billions and billions of years to prove it”. Yeah, sure. Cry like a spoiled baby. How convenient FOR YOU…you put your “proof” so far out of reach you can hide behind the impossibility of EVER “proving” it one way or the other. And THEN you will defend it WITHOUT proof just like all the other zealots of all the OTHER religions do. And Santa Clause lives at the north pole, but it’s just TOO COLD there to go and “prove” he lives there. Right! In other words, the PROOF is still YOUR burden, NOT mine.

As to evolution in nature- it happens sometimes -on a SMALL scale…a finch’s beak MIGHT change in shape… somewhat…to better eat a food item like a seed. BUT THAT”S ALL it has ever done. ADAPTATION is the appropriate word here -NOT evolution.

The topic of what made things the way they are is STILL an open question. Note Darwin’s invocation of God having made the first living thing. See his book “On the Origin of Species”. How VERY convenient…invoke God when nothing less will do.

I started out like you…an atheist. Now, with a Ph.D in TWO life related subjects, I can make the above statement with ABSOLUTE confidence. So don’t anyone bother to flame me with emails…I don’t read things written by laughing monkeys who just happened to have found themselves the accidental kings and queens of the universe. You are all pseudo-intelligentsia egomaniacs. Seek a psychiatrist for helpful sedatives. You’re just beating your own head with a baseball bat.

PROVE me wrong. And don’t forget your protozoans for demonstrating it next month.

I know better than evolution ex nihilo now.

Regards to All and Happy New Year
    (yes I really mean it)

      “Atheism IS a “religion””
      Is off a TV channel?
“Hypothesis (not theory) of Evolution IS the associated creation myth it defends.”
You’ve already destroyed all credibility you ever had or attempt to have by saying that. Evolution is a scientific theory.
“I DON”T make an extraordinary claims so I DON”T need to have extraordinary EVIDENCE.”
All evidence is in front of you. I highly suggest starting out at this link: http://www.talkorigins.org/origins/faqs-qa.html
“And Santa Clause lives at the north pole, but it’s just TOO COLD there to go and “prove” he lives there.”
People have been to the North Pole. We’ve seen there is no Santa Clause, therefore we can say that within the scope of our knowledge he does not exist.
“As to evolution in nature- it happens sometimes -on a SMALL scale…a finch’s beak MIGHT change in shape… somewhat…to better eat a food item like a seed. BUT THAT”S ALL it has ever done. ADAPTATION is the appropriate word here -NOT evolution. ”
You literally defined evolution then said that it wasn’t and called it adaption. Nope. That’s evolution.
“I started out like you…an atheist. Now, with a Ph.D in TWO life related subjects, I can make the above statement with ABSOLUTE confidence”
Based on the way you’re responding there’s absolutely no way you even have a high school degree. You didn’t even attempt to research evolution before you started spouting out 5 year old (as in the age of the person) fallacies about it. Also a tell tale sign is the way you write your post with random capitalization, like you have an ability to argue a point without typing in caps.
“I don’t read things written by laughing monkeys who just happened to have found themselves the accidental kings and queens of the universe.”
That sentence truly holds no value considering that you just read the entire post and responded to it.

Anyways, come back when you’ve read at least 5 minutes about evolution.
